Aminth is a collection of kaleidoscopic, intricate, and emotionally dense songs written by Francesca for herself and her quartet, a Basel-based ensemble. The group blends the ethereal and mysterious sounds of medieval and renaissance flutes played by Liane Sadler with the shimmering tones of electronics applied to a Renaissance spinet and Francesca’s voice at the piano. This is complemented by the airy, vibrant timbre of Fabian Willmann’s tenor saxophone and the virtuosic double bass of Nadav Erlich. The result is a bold combination of evocative and contemplative songs, enriched by colorful and unexpected orchestrations and improvisations.
The quartet embodies collective creativity and musical exploration, reflecting the fluid landscape of musical genres. The project’s music is inspired by windows and doors, rooms and bridges— thresholds as places of transition, permanence, and the exploration of both others and oneself. Francesca draws inspiration from ancient texts on love, naming the project Aminth (from the Etruscan word for “love” or “desire”) to delve into this theme.
The quartet features some of Francesca’s favorite musicians and collaborators from four different countries: Germany, Israel, Australia, and Italy. These four musicians collaborate with openness and a deep desire to experiment, crafting a personal sonic world to share and inhabit, if only for a fleeting moment.
